On the left?

All Macs are now widescreen, so having the dock on the right just makes sense to me in terms of screen space. Not on autohide, but cmd-alt-D is yr friend.

On the right, because that's where the application menu used to be when Macs had a decent user interface.

On the left, because having it on the right interferes with the menu bar.

Also I prefer to have it aligned to the top, but you can't do that with 10.5 or newer.

How does having it on the right interfere with the menu bar? I never noticed this...

This is "inferior" in the sense of "compatible with focus-follows-mouse", presumably? :-þ

I have it autohiding on machines with limited screen space (macbook) and not-autohiding on those with bigger screens.

If I had anything larger than an iBook, I might consider having a large, non-magnifying dock. But I don't.

It's either smallest setting + auto-hide off + magnifying icons on or somewhere in the middle + magnifying icons off + auto-hide on.

Presumably it was an oversight that the tickybox I needed is absent:

Wherever you damn well like, firmly in the face of the misguided notion that there is one true place for it to be. Ha!

I would personally recommend "by the bay" would be a good place for it to sit.
